Tanz Performance in EDEN***** Berlin
With VIEW.POINT.MARY, Cranky Bodies a/company celebrate Mary Overlie, the original anarchist of postmodern dance. Her legendary horizontal laboratory is created in the landscape of EDEN Studio 300, where dance, sound, costume and sculpture move in ever-changing contexts.
In an installative performance with new transitional sculptures by Michiel Keuper, the dancers articulate six points of view: Space, Form, Time, Movement, Emotion and Narrative. Variable floor patterns and spaces are created and filled with solos, duos and group scores.
The interdisciplinary ensemble Cranky Bodies a/company consists of dancers and artists who have been working together in various constellations since 2014. I have a pleasure to contribute with my light design for 3rd time!

YET TO COME – EXPERIMENTS IN REVERSE-ENGINEERING AND CONSERVING PERFORMANCE
exhibition
SEPTEMBER 14-29, 2024..
It is an exhibition about a performance that has not happened yet. Not unlike a conventional display of performative works, it involves moving images, photographs, objects, scores and documentation as well as alternative means of keeping performances alive.
The exhibition reverse-engineers performance, starting, anachronically, from what the event will have generated. Here, the performance event has not occurred, and yet its “material” has already arrived. The exhibition thus experimentally questions the perceived linearity of time—a past followed by a present and a future—disrupting the ontology of causality and effect. Performance lingers in the intervals among these material forms, in the “future perfect” of potential scenarios, in the disruptive a priori of conservation.

UNDER MY GAZE by Renae Shadler
with the workshop for the families!
Our ecosystem depends on the Sun that gazes upon the Earth creating and destroying life. The performance is a ritual for our times created together with Aerocene Foundation – a sculpture inflated by air, carried by wind and lifted only when touched by the rays of the sun. Bodies and voices pulse with the gravitational pull and combustive power of this solar giant. The sculpture gives a body to the unseen forces that surround us, connecting Earth-bound dancers to aerial and cosmic worlds. After the show artists offer a workshop about dancing with the atmosphere.

ROOMS BY THE SEA/ exercises in listening
for the opening of 2024 edition of Krakow Dance Festival, I have a pleasure to create a work that reactivates my choreography from 2014.
“Joanna Lesnierowska takes us once again to rooms by the sea. 10 years after the premiere of …/rooms by the sea/ exercises in looking, she once again looks through Hopperesque glasses at characters stubbornly traversing landscapes thick with micro gestures and sounds. She juxtaposes the outer and inner worlds, offering us insights into ambiguous, yet at the same time so well known to us states of suspension, alienation, distance (also from each other), and longing for what is ungraspable and what escapes words. Celebrating at the same time the 10th anniversary of the Cracow Choreographic Center, the artist reactivates the choreographic language she has been developing for more than a decade, seeking physical and visual representation for the idea of a polyphonic body: a body of many voices coexisting, and struggling with these voices in excess, cacophony, noise. Continuing her exploration of the intersection of choreography and visual arts, she simultaneously asks where we are headed several years after the global experience of forced isolation, and – do we still feel trapped in Hopper’s images? And after decades of alienation by choice, do we desire and know again how to hear each other and be together in new way?”

JULY 6/7th – opening of ART SAFIENTAL
In the summer of 2024, the voices of thirteen artists will be heard in the Alpine valley of Safiental, located in the Canton of Grisons, Switzerland. Akin to mountaineers calling to each other from mountain tops, the tales of different futures and speculative scenarios will bounce off the peaks and reverberate within the valley, amplifying the visions of these imagined tomorrows. What songs will we hear? And which ones would we like to sing along with?

Who needs body to dance? or an introduction to expanded choreography
Dance as we know it will soon be, or perhaps already is, dead! However, the future, more than ever, belongs to choreography! but only if it recognizes its potential in its expanded form. (Swedish Dance History.vol.4)

BETWEEN BODY-MEMORY AND BODY-PRESENT: RE/ACTIVATING CHOREOGRAPHY
What does it mean to bring a performance, a choreography, or a gesture by a previously unknown but brilliant choreographer from the past into the present? What does it mean to reconstruct a performance and is it possible at all within such an ephemeral form of expression? Can activation be deployed as an alternative to reconstruction? But what if reactivation, reconstruction, or even restoration of an oeuvre becomes impossible due to the scarcity of source materials such as recordings, photographic archives, and testimonies, written or oral? Can a past choreography or performance live on in contemporary practices as a product of recycling and upcycling, and what do those strategies mean within the choreographic practice?

workshop on Visual Dramaturgy
Zurich, 5-8.12.2023 @ ZHDK
and ARTIST TALKS on 4th of December / see more HERE
The departure point for this course is a belief that light design (as well as dramaturgy) is neither independent aspect of the work, nor something artificially applied to a work in the last moment. As a condition of our sight, light is always there with us even if we do not consider it. So if the light conditions our seeing, and to see (especially in English 😉 depicts both the ability to perceive things as well as to understand them, then reflecting on and creating the space of visibility for our performance is worth to be looked at/embraced / being developed already at the beginning stages of our creation process.

revival of the work of 2022 / see more HERE
This work forms the conclusion of a journey that began in the Sophiensaele via the Brandenburg residential town of Ponderosa via Szczecin to the Polish Baltic Sea, accompanied by the filmmaker Stella Horta. In an installation and durational setting, dance improvisation, video, sound, autobiographical memories and historical events flow into one another, opening up questions about the potential of improvisational practice, participation and resistance.
I am happy to be part of the collective and dance /improvise with my light !
mentoring at Dance Critics Residency
within Beyond Front@: Bridging Periphery
November 15-19th
I have a pleasure to join Beyond Front@: Bridging Periphery – a new Creative Europe project created by Central Europe Dance Theater (Hungary), Bunker (Slovenia), HIPP (Croatia), Krakow Dance Theatre (Poland), M Studio (Romania) and Vitlycke – Centre for Performing Arts (Sweden) to foster local development of the contemporary dance fields.
In the frame of this project a Dance Critics’ Residency takes place 15 – 19 November 2023 in Budapest.
It is a five day workshop that will give the participants an opportunity to get acquainted with some of the the concepts of contemporary performing arts criticism. The three very different mentors (I am joining great colleagues Pia Brezavšček and Bush Hartshorn) will lead the discussions about how we see/watch art, how we talk about art and how we write about art – with the focus on contemporary dance. The mentors will share their individual practices coming from their different backgrounds as dance practitioners and thinkers. The aim is to trigger broader discussion not only about how to write on / about dance but also – how to accompany dance (and audiences? and artists?) with our writing. Dropping an idea that one can teach writing, the mentors hope rather to guide the group into creating together a space for inspiring discussions and peer to peer experiences exchange.
Inauguration of Performance Program for “Wanda Czełkowska. Art is Not Rest”
from August 5th @ Muzeum Susch
Created upon invitation of Matylda Taszycka, curator of exhibition “Wanda Czełkowska. Art is not Rest”, I had a great pleasure to dive in the work and thought of Polish sculptor whose first ever international solo exhibition is on display at Muzeum Susch till November 26th.
Following Czełkowska restless reflection on the way to redefinition of sculpture and resonating with her exploration of movement, the 4 months program invites international female choreographers for residencies, public presentations, and discussions to discover, explore, and respond to Czełkowska’s inspiring thought and oeuvre.
Artist invited: Ola Maciejewska/Isabel Schad/Sara Wookey/Anna Nowicka/Stella Horta/Meg Stuart/Eva Meyer-Keller – check the detailed agenda of events!

Joining the curatorial team of
ART SAFIENTAL 2024
Every two years, an international outdoor exhibition with a changing focus on the latest trends in Land and Environmental Art takes place in the Safiental (Grisons, Switzerland). After New Land Art (2016), Horizontal – Vertical (2018), Analog – Digital (2020), and Learning from the Earth (2022), we have embarked on the journey and work for the 2024 edition. I am joining the team of great colleagues (Joahannes Hedinger, artistic director, co-curators Anne-Laure Franchette and Josiane Imhasly, and artistic advisor Damian Christinger ) to create an event in which for first time artistic position will be granted also to performance /choreography artists.
