Maria Zimpel
Love project
Maria Zimpel’s LOVE PROJECT is not about romantic love. It’s more about love in the sense of the energy that swirls around and within you, making communication possible. The energy that pushes water up the tree trunk to nourish the leaves. Energy that allows trees to communicate with each other. Trees and fungi can be compared in their anatomy to the structures of the human nervous and circulatory systems, so bridges can be built between nature and humans. But LOVE PROJECT is actually about the most important thing of all, namely the restoration of balance. The duet by Hamburg choreographer and former K3 resident Maria Zimpel and former Forsythe dancer Yasutake Shimaji imagines the body as a transmitter and explores the ecofeminist idea of embodied nature. In doing so, the two artists enter into a choreographic dialogue with film footage of weather phenomena and micro-life by videographer Claudio von Planta
